I have a 1998 buick lesabre FWD, 4 speed auto with overdrive, 3.8 liter 3800 series II motor. The motor has gone to hell. I am looking into putting a new motor in it and I am looking at this 3.8 liter ssupercharged ssei 3800 v6 from a 1995 pontiac bonneville, FWD 4 speed auto with overdrive. I am just wondering if it will be compatible. Will the computer accept it. What problems might I run into if this is even possible at all. I am not mechanically handy. I really appreciate any helpful answers. Thank you.

I just want to make sure that everything is compatible and the computer doesn't go haywire.

Here is what you need to be concerned with: making sure you get the right computer for the right application. You are on the right track with the idea of the computer maybe not accepting the supercharger. Some of the GM computers were even different the same years in the same models depending on the options. Sometimes, they were the same for a year or two at a time on the same cars. So you never know without having the two computer boxes side by side and comparing the numbers on the two. To be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN, be sure and get the computer from the "donor" car. There are two trains of thought here. If you are purchasing the motor from a salvage yard, be sure and explain your situation. Buy all of the parts at one time that you think you might need, rather than going back different times. In the long run, it will save you money that way. If you do, then chances are that some of the parts might be thrown in for free whereas if you keep going back to get extra, then you might be charged for each extra part you get, and rightfully so. If a friend, relative, or whoever has the car with the "donor" engine, and you can get the COMPLETE car, that would be the ideal. That way, you would have all of the parts you need to complete the job. Then there would be absolutely no doubt as to the swap being possible.

It probably will BOLT IN, given that both are the "same vehicle body line", namely GM's 'H' body. But, I would err on the side of caution and get the proper PCM for it as well. If you are not handy, I would suggest you leave the job to someone who is. That's a major undertaking you are talking about there.

Your going to spend more then the car is worth. IF you love the car and have the money, you still have the smog laws. If you ever think about resale in the future your screwed.
