On mine; look top right for Insert, Delete, Home and End. There are half moons with up/down arrows and Suns with up/down arrows. Look for something like that may be blue or a different color. Then on the bottom left there a key Fn hold down Fn and press the up/down arrows. Half moons are Contrast and Suns are Brightness.
This how mine work.
Some have a slider on the Screen somewhere.

On a Mac you go into System Preferences, then monitors, and adjust it there. On a PC using Windows XP, it's in the control panels under monitors i believe. If there's no brightness adjustment I think you go under "Advanced" and adjust the gamma.

Use this program, it is called cleartype, and it works great on a lcd monitor, or a laptop. Just click on the boxes that look best to you, and it will always be the right settings. You always can go back, and change it..

Tried powersaver? That will dim the screen, and also save battery time.
