in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification
in recent times thousands of people have died because of exessive heat, usually old people.in India ,Mexico and France,
deforestation causing desertification, the desert conditions causing very cold nights and scorching hot days
in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert, the globe where they were got to hot for them .
and instead of producing food they are now needing it from some where else, and they will drastically effect the world food prices when they start buying water in the form of grains ,at any cost destabalising governments, in some countries ,could be the result
(are you seeing more Chinese around interested in agricultural lands ,we do here in Mexico)
this was man made global warming because of over grazing and fertilizers, and they are not the only ones
collectively this planet is drying up ,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.
so as far as the food production is concerned Global warming or some of its effects are serious, rising seas result in landloss
each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss
more landloss because of desertification every year,we have less areble land to produce food ,for an extra 70 million people ,
and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers
who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,
because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing
RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.
Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,
At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.
SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes
reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.
the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.
the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia
Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.
the protection of existing forrests.
stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.
education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.
education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion
Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.
more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks
,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour
alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine
recicling wastes,limit water use

CO2 is 30% higher than it has been for 650,000 years. Methane is 130% greater. These are two of the main pollutants humans put into the atmosphere in excess, and they are two of the primary greenhouse gases.
Look at the 'hockeystick', which shows a dramatic warming since 1950 after a fairly stable climate for 1000 years. In fact, the 10 hottest years in recorded history have all happened since 1990, with 2005 being the hottest.
(see links below)
How's that for proof of man's fault in this? There is ample proof, any real scientist will tell you that.
There has NEVER been an article doubting man's influence on global warming published in a peer-reviewed journal. A recent study of almost 1000 proved that.
Yes, the earth naturally heats and cools, but the rate and amount we are warming now is unprecedented in the recent geologic past. We are doing this, and we must stop it. This is not some political statement or rhetoric. This is science trying to educate a crass, ignorant public of the damage they are doing. The magnitude of temperature increase ALREADY is about 10x that of the 'little ice age' of the middle ages, and rate and amount are only going up.
Just to be clear, glacial and interglacial cycles are mainly controlled by astronomical fluctuations, but we have a detailed record of the last 7 cycles, and what the climate and CO2 is doing now is way different and extreme. The rate of increase is much higher than in the past AND the value itself is much higher.

I don't see how anyone can say mankind isn't causing very much pollution. That is ridiculous just look at the brown hazy horizon full of smog and places where mountains were visible from 50 miles away can barely be seen from 5 miles away. Look at 100's of millions of vehicles putting out deadly carbon monoxide and oil and fuel related pollutants daily. Look up see hundreds and thousands of jets spewing exhaust right up in the atmosphere, not to mention all the factories and energy producing plants emitting CO2 and countless other pollutants. Look at the seas and lakes every fish has some level of mercury in it's body. I can hardly even breathe outside on an Ozone alert day. Oh it's real no doubt. I just hope we wake up and are able to do something before we all suffocate. there is also a condition we have known as Global dimming which is caused by all the pollution in the atmosphere scientists have proved water evaporates at a slower rate because the sunlight has been dimmed this kind of offsets the global warming otherwise the water and planet would be heating up faster than it is.

Actually global warming is not that bad. Without global warming, the factor called global dimming, in which the sunlight is actually reflected by earth's pollution atmosphere, will shroud Earth and literally launch another ice age.
The problem is too much global warming instead of global warming itself. People already made actions to reduce global warming such as the Kyoto Protocal decades ago, and the CO2 emission in industrialized nations is now actually reduced. But the problem is the developing nations such as India and China, where the gov't pays little attention to the environment. So to resolve this, the international community definitely put pressure on those developing countries and aid them in coming up with eco friendly industries.
We don't have much time, a decade or so. If this continues, it's a point of no-return, and rising climates will have irreversable and cataclysmic effect on humans.

Yes I do.
I think it will take more severe weather than we are allready experiencing worldwide for individuals, as well as corporations to try really hard to reverse it.
I mean, we as a race are doing some good, now, but then it seems like we , mankind, just continue cutting down our Forests, and building more and more homes on Prime Agricultural land,...etc. etc...
DJ
Oh yeah, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Flooding and the likes are all increasing and getting worse, WORLDWIDE at an alarming rate.
Then there are the VOLCANOES and EARTHQUAKES, that seem to be getting stronger too.
Sometimes as a PRACTICAL GEOLOGIST, I often wonder if by taking so much OIL from within the Earth...if in some way we are not actually taking the earths natural lubricant.
It does not seem possible really.
I never study, but it seems like for some reason the EARTH is WAKING BACK UP, though it has never really slept.
Mt Rainier, my,"backyard VOLCANOE", seems due to AWAKEN anytime.
I have gotten sidetracked, as usual...
But yes, I believe in Global warming, and I believe man is very much to blame.
I believe it may be possible to start reversing the effects...
But unless there is a lot of money for the GOV'T(s) to make, they will just keep doing what they are doing.

ok, im gonna try to keep this short and sweet, but heres my "opinion" scientist believe that the poles of the earth have been shifting, very slightly, but enough that it can be proven, with rock formations and "weather" yes global warming is happening, but so is global cooling.
if the poles change direction then ice melts, and it also freezes in other places. it does make sense though, i believe that if millions of years ago before we started keeping records of the earth, that the poles were at different locations, and is what caused an ice age, maybe not worldwide, like the north and south poles were like the equator today, and africa was covered in snow. If that is the truth than that would have killed the dinosaurs. but hince this is just my "opinion" no one really knows for sure. yes you can go with the liberals and say that cigarette smokers have an effect on this, but personaly i just think thats bs!

Yes, because the climate has always changed on this and other planets, why would it stop now? I think there are more natural forces at work than human pollution, but reducing that is always a good idea. I doubt you will get cooperation, if you look close at Kyodo it basically punishes the USA and allows developing countries like China and India to pollute without restraint, and those countries like North Elbonia that don't pollute at all get to sell their "pollution credits" for big money to others. that doesn't reduce pollution at all, just harms the US economy. And there is no "limit" it will reach, the weather will change and under the holy law of Darwinism, that which can't adapt, goes extinct, same as always. If we can slow down the trend and put technology to work to preserve instead of take life, I think it would be a "good thing", but it would take a miracle to get all nations to work together, (and even then the French would cut their own deal :P )

Yes, the statistics are very clear. The planet is getting warmer and warmer. But it is not the first time it happens in the long history of earth.
So the main question is: Are human being activities responsible of the warming we are observing now ?
My answer is yes to that questions too.
We (human race) have sent so much more CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere since one century that it has a significant effect on the climate of the whole planet.

I don't believe in a single cause like many people repeat this CO2 and greenhouse theory. There are others to consider as well. I understand about planetary orbital wobbles and earth core realigning the North and South Poles also has a lot to do with global climate changes as well. I also understand that urbanization with paving over green space with reflective concrete and black top have climate effects as well. But trying to get this debate going with Environmentalists is not going over well. They seem to be locked into the Greenhouse theory without looking at other causes.

yes. I do believe. Due to human activities and other natural disasters, such as burning of fossil fuels, smoke from factories. car pollutants, forest fires and forest depletion, the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere increase annually, making some heat on our planet instead of escaping, they're trapped for some how many years. These heat makes the average global temperature to increase. Not only the CO2 that makes our planet become hot, but, some pollutants such us, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, ground ozone and the CFC's, these pollutant's makes our planet become warmer by destroying the ozone layer.
...and for your information, 2005 was the hottest year on record. If you read more informative books about our environment, you will learned a lot from how the human activities affect our environment.
... that's all!! i hope that you learned a lot from me!:-)

i'm nevertheless slightly sceptical, even however i for my area care approximately our wild places. I do inspite of the undeniable fact that think of that we could consistently take the possibility heavily. The data proves that organic cycles of climate ensue on a grand scale. there have been as quickly as lions, hippos and elephants wandering the united kingdom nation-state, approximately a hundred and twenty,000 years in the past. That replaced into an interglacial heat spell. the element that's no longer disputed, is that those issues ensue of course, inspite of each thing the Scottish nation-state is packed with glacial good factors. inspite of the undeniable fact that, the data skill that our extra contribution to worldwide warming is making it ensue at a speedier fee than existence can handle. we are speaking approximately climate replace occurring in an prolonged time, quite than spanning centuries or hundreds of years. flowers and fauna has coped with climate replace somewhat properly in the previous. woodlands and grasslands can flow at their snails %., to maintain song of the situations that tournament them. at the instant there are extra subject concerns. we've our flowers and fauna trapped in wallet that are surrounded by farmland. The organic "corridors" are long gone. flowers and fauna charities are doing their terrific to make our wild places extra joined up. If climate replace keeps because it quite is and there is not any area for issues to go, then we can lose plenty. besides, i think of my important undertaking is that i do no longer choose it to be real.
