I would choose a Wii... it is waaaaay more sports-oriented and INCLUDES a multi-sports game. The Wii wireless revolutionary motion-sensitive controllers are made to be PHYSICALLY interactive, so for sports games, there's NOTHING better. The controller senses any movement of your wrist, hands, arms and will supposedly, even legs, so look oout SOCCER world. The variety of simulated motions include, but are not limited to: bowling, tennis, batting, pitching, punching, kicking, shooting, dueling, throwing, steering, flying and even drawing/painting with the exclusive upcoming Bob Ross release. The X-Box 360 is mostly best for RPG games like "Call Of Duty" and "Halo" however, the graphics are better than the Wii. The Wii's price is attractive... only $250, while an X-Box 360 runs between $400 to $500 unless you buy the stripped-down Core system for $300. Wal-Mart currently has X-box 360 bundles at $400 and up - they include a wireless controller, X-Box Live trial and a game. The Wii is very compact and also plays every single Nintendo game ever reased from the past two-plus decades from Game Cube all the back to the NES with Zelda. That, to me makes it the choice for a beginner or one who has not accessed gaming technology in the past 3-5 years. Good luck and good gaming.
P.S.>>> I heard that playing Madden on a Wii is a total hoot.

Quality - Both, so far, have quality games. The controls for both systems are very simplistic and make a lot of sense.
Must buys for the Wii - Trauma Center, Zelda.
Must buys for 360 - Gears of War, Halo series, Prey, Madden 07.
Currently, there aren't any sports games for the Wii, but Madden will be ported to it [throw the football?] and the Wii comes with WiiSports which is addicting. There are sports games for the 360 [Madden and... racing?] I'm not quite sure about Fifa though. I'm pretty sure.
Graphics - hands down, 360. Nintendo tried to lower costs by not having HD graphics, so they're not as good as the 360, but the graphics for some of the games for the Wii [like Zelda] are impressive for the Wii.
Overall, it depends on the types of games you want to play, and the conditions. If you want to chill, shoot the crap out of stuff, play online [Xbox Live is fun], get a 360. If you want to have fun with your friends get a Wii. They're both fun.

X Box 360 has the best graphics of the two, Wii has more dynamic and adictive gameplay. Wii has a relatively small library since it was just released but has Zelda and Red Steel. However, if you just want to grab a controller and play with out much movement, take the X Box. It still has good games as well but the are more of the first person shooter or sports genre. Just pick whatever system has the games that suit your tastes

The Xbox 360 has better graphics since it has HD DVD, but the Wii would probably be more fun to play sports games. It's really up to you on which aspects of a console appeal to you the most. Personally, I would prefer a fun game rather than a game that just looks good, so I would go with the Wii.

I'd go with Wii. If sports are your thing, then you've got several racing games, Madden with immersive controls, and a pack-in sports game. Gameplay>Graphics.
