My annual exams have always been very uneventful. "looks fine, see ya next year". But this week my doc found a lump/cyst on my right ovary about 2mm. That pelvic exam was killer painful. Also Doc found polyps in my colon/rectum.

What the heck is going on here? I have no family history of Ovarian or Colon cancer. And I have always been a picture of health. I'm only 28 years old. I have an endoscopy scheduled on Tues for the polyps. And an Ultrasound on next Wednesday for the Ovary. I'm really scared about this.

Are situations like this commonplace? Do I really have nothing to worry about? Has anyone else gone through this, and what happened?

Any help from those who have been through situations like this...or from healthcare professionals would be appreciated.

I AM on BC Pills (Micronor), and am also breastfeeding my baby. I know that can affect ovulation and such.

An ovarian cyst does not mean you have cancer. If the ultrasound shows something, your doctor will probably do a pap smear if she hasn't already. If the pap smear is abnormal, the next step is a colposcopy, which is sort of a glorified pap smear, where the doctor takes cells from inside the cervix to test for cancer. Usually a cyst is just a cyst, painful but not life-threatening. I have had a cystic ovary, which made painful cyst every time I ovulated, and my doctor put me on birth control to stop me from ovulating. Good bye cysts. As for the polyps in the colon, again, that doesn't always mean cancer. Go do a google search for polyps and do some reading. Just don't get all scared and nervous, okay?

I've never had colo/rectal polyps.

However, I have had ovarian cysts. 2 of them were discovered years ago during an exam. After months of oral contraceptives to shrink them didn't work, I had them surgically removed.

The recovery was brutal, but I am glad they were caught, since they were large. I was eventually told I had endometriosis.

Don't panic; see your dr's and see what options are available for you as a treatment. Get a second opinion, if necessary.

Don't get over worked up before the test results come back. It could be something yes- and also could be an easy fix. Used to work closely with the US techs and saw tons of ultrasounds done because of situations like these. Knew a lot of people who got worked up over nothing.
