You need to do drills to improve your stroke and make it more efficient. Also, if you're trying out for the 50m portion, you need to be able to swim at least 200m non-stop. That will ensure you have the endurance to swim a HARD 50m; also, most 50m sprinters only take one or two breaths the entire race, so you need endurance for that as well. Try this - next time you swim, put your hands straight out in front of you, and then do your stroke with one hand, leaving the other hand in front of you. Bring the stroke hand all the way through and touch the opposing hand, and then repeat on the other side. This will train you to reach straight out and will maximize your stroke length.

first u have do determine which part of ur stroke u need to work on.. i swam competitively for 13 yrs.. and when i was still starting out, that's what i did.. what makes u tired when u swim? is it ur kicking? or pulling.. once u find out.. try practicing it more.. if u think ur pulling is weak.. then try doing drill with paddles and a buoy, and do lots of sculling- this really helped me a lot.. if ur kicking is the problem then, do sum sets with a kick board.. try kicking nonstop (try doing 5 sets of 100m) then increase sets as u get better.. 50 free is the fastest event.. so it mostly depends on ur strength.. also make sure that ur stroke is in perfect timing..
what good does strength do if ur timing is off? u wont get anywhere..
finally practice ur start... dolphin kick is the most effective start- its faster under water.. but don't stay under water too long.. surface out ryt away before u starting slowing down..
sprint all the way!!! its only a 50!!!

keep practicing atleast two 500's and makes sure you dont stop. being able to do ALOT without stopping will let you do a little VERY FAST because your strength and endurance will improve. your stroke also counts, so make sure you are as streamlined as possible and your arms should be stretched out all the way straight infront of you before you do another pull, because this makes you able to cover more surface area to pull your body with. TIMING is a big thing specially to conserve your energy. if you breathe to early or you make your strokes too early then you lose the momentum that you should be getting. again reaching your arms as far as possible before you pull really helps alot. fewer breaths taken means more effective movement because breathing slows you down by a fraction of a second; but that fraction of a second specially in swimming counts!! even if its just 1/500ths!!

stroke drills....and a lot of them. they will really help. look online for some drills. also, try strengthening your arms by pulling, or using just your arms. they have styrofoam things for that, but if you dont want do go out and buy that (although it will REALLY help) just cross your legs while swimming so you wont kick. but really....drills. watch how other people do,it correctly and try to compare it to what you feel you're doing. and build up your leg strength by doing some kicking. but make sure youre doing it properly (not bending your knees). and really just practice. and ENDURANCE. you should be able to do a 200 or 300 free without stopping. if you need more help or tips and stuff, feel free to email me.

First of all, when you do freestyle you reach out and glide more with with your hands hold it for a period of time bring it out by bringing you elbow back. So once you have one hand out bring in the other. Another reason might be your kicking. Don't tire yourself out by kicking as if your life depended on it, just keep it at a speed were you can be comfortable at! Good Luck!

ok the 1st element i could advise is to do strengthening on your hands and larger physique. The greater efficient your stroke is the swifter you will go. i could advise to maintain your stroke long and concentration on extending your arm to the fullest quantity in the previous you commence your pull. once you pull, submit to in innovations that its no longer what share pulls you do, yet how powerfull each stroke is. once you first commence out you will pull greater, yet with coaching you would be getting better and for this reason you have gotten the means to pull much less yet additionally go swifter. on the tip of your pull you may excellorate your hands so as that it relatively is the quickest and maximum efficient area of your pull. i could additionally advise streamlining once you push off the wall. Streamlining is the place you kick off the wall troublesome and carry your palms in front of your head (once you're nonetheless under water) and do flutter kick untill you commence floating up and then commence your pull. once you breathe, i could say to respire each 2 strokes so as which you're respiratory on opposite aspects. in case you do this you have much less of an excellent gamble of unfavourable your lower back and your rotaters cuffs on your hands. additionally continually kick even once you get tied because of the fact it facilitates you get a swifter time.
