There's a guy I like from my work place. He's extremely shy, but I'd still like to get to know him better, even just as friends.
Note: I'm trying to get to know him better & be friends, not ask for a date!
Anyway, in person we talk quite a bit. Not a terrible lot, because, like I said, he's shy. But he'll talk to me about as much as a normal person would. I take talking to me a normal amount as a good sign! lol
Online, though, it gets weird and we don't talk very much at all. I'd like to talk to him more, though, because we're never truly alone at work and so I think it'd be a good chance for us to get to know each other better.
HOw should I talk to him to get him to type/talk more online? I know he wants to talk because he's mentioned looking for me online on a few occasions, saying I need to sign on more. I figure, he wants to talk but isn't sure what to say. What can I talk about that seems natural? & no suggestions about work. It feels like that's all we talk about!

In my experience, most guys (men) are not big fans of typing so don't really enjoy on-line chatting. Sadly this is opposite to females who love on-line chatting.
Guys seem to prefer talking on the phone, or even better, chatting in a car. So why not try calling him, or ask him to drive you somewhere.

Well, when I try to start a conversation, I always start with, "The weather seems nice today..." That usually gets a laugh, or if it's a bad weather, the person says something like " It's raining..." And then i just say something like, "Oh... I wuz too lazy to check the weather. I just wanted to start a conversation." Well, since he's shy, try being blunt? I'm shy in reality (not in computer world) and I really prefer it when people ask me questions or when they start a conversation.

You know what just ask him out to dinner, And just tell him that you want to get to know him better, even if he is shy< Your the one doing the asking. Seems there might be a little attraction there to, So why not you only live once.

any brothers or sisters, his favorite thing,
