Here is what happened to me.
Ex-wife left me with son when he was 2 1/2. She never saw him again and was ordered to pay child support. This was back in 1988 and was $200.00/mo
She never paid a dime.
I filed and it took me YEARS before they tracked her down. (Alabama) I live out of state. My son is over 18 now, and she owed close to $40,000.00 in arrearage.
Believe it or not the Court ordered her to pay the arrearage, but she just started last October like it was day one. No tax intecept either, as he is now over 18 and it is arrearage that is now owed.
To make matters worse she stopped paying last May and it took Alabama 6 months before they do anything, and now she disappeared! They don't have an address for her now and am asking me if I have one!
She has not talked to me or her son in 18 yrs! (He is now 20)
I live out state also, which makes it that much more difficult to collect as I have to go through my state to contact her state and they have to wait a few months of non-payment which turned into six months, which gave her ample opportunity to move away!
I felt the Court should have made her pay at least 1/2 of what she owed or put her in jail!
I feel Alabama is responsible for letting her disappear, and not enforcing the court order like they are supposed to.
Arrrrgggghhhhh!

It can. A better, quicker way, is to notify the court that he has not paid a dime in 6 months. Why wait to file the papers? The sooner you file, the sooner they pick him up or revoke his license and the sooner they do that, the sooner he gets busy getting a job, securing money so the kid can eat. He should be paying through probabtion anyways if he is a deadbeat. If not, notify the court. Depending on your state, this is easy to do usually and may or may not require an actual court heaing. Call the courthouse, they can probably tell you. Good luck! I hate DEAD BEAT PARENTS!!!!!!

Do you mean can you get your unpaid child support from your ex's tax return? If you have a court order yes you can take his tax return. I'm just not sure exactly how it works, I'd contact an attorney, use the one that took care of the prgional order, I do know my cousin gets the ex's tax return every year for the unpaid portion.

Since you have a court order, if he has a tax refund coming to him, whatever he owes will come out of the refund. Have your notified the court that he's not paying you? If not, do so right away. I may require an attorney. Sorry to hear about your problem. I hope it get resolved.

He will eventually end up in jail.
Get in touch with your state child support recovery office. Those people are great.
Yes, unpaid child support in a round about way, affects the taxpayers. If the custodial parent needs state aid to support their children or for medical, the tax payers foot the bill. But don't feel guilty about needing state aid--the state will eventually make your kids' deadbeat dad pay it back.

When arrearages in child support are accumulated the payor will automaticaly have their taxes intercepted by the child support office. Then they will forward the money to you. That is only if he files taxes for that year. Yes if the arrears are under $500 they may not take his taxes.

yes. if he files taxes your local child support division will intercept them on your behalf if you have an open case with them. If you do not receive any kind of assistance you can still ask for their help in enforcing the court order. If you receive assistance they will automatically intercept his taxes. Good Luck
