"What To Expect The First Year" is a wonderful book to help answer your questions and I highly recommend it!
Here are the things I try to do daily to bond with my baby and stimulate/teach her at the same time:
1. Sing to her
2. Coo at her
3. Talk to her
4. Massage her joints - they love this!
5. Read to her
6. Play music for her (I play the piano for her, but you can play a CD - they love music!)
7. Give her time to try to grab a rattle and follow the object back and forth or look at her mobile and track the objects going around
8. Show her black and white pictures (there are activity mats, books, and the like with black and white contrasts that help them develop vision)
9. Take her outside in the fresh air.
My baby is two months old and I have been doing these things since she was about one month old.
I hope this helps! Enjoy your sweet little one!

All the toys and other gadgets are nice, but you are their first and best learning apparatus. Always look right into the babies eyes when you talk to him, always enunciate and exaggerate your words. Talk to them often and name every object he sees. As he gets older, don't be afraid to put him on the floor, this helps him develop his muscles. If you don't have a whole lot of money, know that ordinary household items, are great toys. Pots and pans are the best. Simple ABC blocks are old-fashioned but they help him develop motor skills. Oh yes, reading to him helps develop both language and communication skills. I don't know much about today's toys, my youngest is 15, but always make sure whatever you buy is age appropriate.

Touch is the best, I think, and I agree with the black and white stuff. I have a 9 week old son and he has loved the mirror for a couple weeks now.
Tiny Love makes really cool toys for infants. They have lots of colors/patterns and they have that crunchy paper in them that infants love when they get older. My daughter loved those toys the best.

Just wait and enjoy him, this newborn stage flies by so fast.Dont waste time because he may stare at a object for awhile but thats about it.The best thing you can do if hold him talk to him, play music, kiss him,rub his back and belly, these things are his senses right now...let him see how great the world is..screw the toys for a couple months

The best thing you can do is interact with your child. No toy can stimulate all the senses like a parent playing with their child. You can enhance this by wearing black and white patterns, and later on bright colors.

Any kind of soft toys that are black and white since new baby's really cannot see colours right off the bat..I would also suggest a soft plush toy that crinkles or squeaks when it is gently pushed..Any kind of toy that plays music is a big attention grabber also!!

Supposedly black and white things are good for young babies' eyes. Talk to him a lot, about everything. Read to him a lot and look at pictures, and the sky and the moon and the stars and plants and animals. What a wonderful time of life it is when we have those little ones!

Babies that age only notice things and shapes in Black and White. Get a magic marker and make some shapes on a poster board then cut them out to hold in front of the baby. This stimulates his/her eye site and their senses. I did this with my children and my grandchild, you will be surprised!
They also make mobiles in black and white and little rattles, because of this reason. Good luck.

I'm not much for putting my child in front of the TV, but when my toddler was an infant, I would put him in his bouncy seat in front of the TV and put in a Baby Einstein DVD made specifically for his age and he was mesmerized by the sounds, the pictures, and the colors. These DVD's are made just for babies and toddlers to stimulate early learning and development.
