it will depend on the model of your dell laptop, but even you have the adaptor, you still need a wireless router to distribute wireless network.You can check it on
Control Panel-->System--->hardware--->Device manager
Expand the network adaptor and see if there is any wireless device.
If so check if they have been installed probably.
but i need to tell you that wireless network theotically is slower than the cable if you are not using 108mps adaptor and router(you need to have both to make that speed and that's will be more than 200 dollars for both device.)
So, check if you really need that.

start - connect to- wireless network connections 2. base model dells come with pc slots for wireless adapters. higher ends come with xpress slots. you can buy a wireless router and the adapter. make sure you follow security on a wireless connection.

Click on Start | Control Panel | Network Connections
If you do not see a wireless icon you probably do not have an internal adapter. Also try this link to look up product info:

Typically, a wireless card isn't installed on your computer unless you requested it when ordering the computer. You can use an external wireless card.

if you click on start and then network places, you should be able to view your wireless networks if you have it, or the option to add one. You will still need to buy a wireless modem or a wired modem and wireless router.

If you see in specs something about a wireless lan (WLAN) , then you built in wireless.
