The problem with a 192.168.*.* address is that it is the usual default IP setup for Linksys routers. Therefore, if you do have any openings in your security, it would be easy to "figure out" your IP. I suggest changing it from the default settings.

192.168.*.* is a local IP only. Regardless of where a person is, if they type this in, they can NOT gain access to your system or your files. If they had the acual IP of the site, then this changes, but it will not be this! LocalHost is the same as this IP, and no one who isn't on your local network can not gain access. Even if they live next door and type in the IP, it is still within your private domain and not accessable. Hope this helps

Yes, the address you list is considered "private". What this means, however, is that it is not routable on the internet. It does not mean that no one can access it. If they connect to your router, then can certainly get to your computer. First, fix your security on your router. Second, get a firewall. Even the Windows Firewall is better then nothing! If you need help with the router security, post a question with the router brand, info about your config, and any errors you are getting.

192.168.*.* is a private IP address range and is not accessible unless you have a gateway that is pointing traffic to it.
