Is liking someone a requirement for loving them? I love my family to death, but sometimes I don't like them at all. But I still love them while I don't like them. I think you don't have to like someone to love them. And even taking it beyond family with men and women. What are your thoughts on this?

Everything in life is about relationships...beginning with your relationship with yourself. Once you have that relationship figured out (theone with yourself), you will automatically deal with the others. Your family...you can't choose them. You have a relationship with them that you can define anyway you wish. If you want to call it love, then so be it. If you have a relationship with a partner toward whom you feel a strong emotional pull, good for you. But you probably feel fdifferent emotional pulls wiht everyone you meet. Don't get hung up on the terminology. If you want to call it love, friendship, attraction or whatever, it's your choice. Live your life and don't worry too much about labels. Labels become too distracting.

It's the old saying you can't pick your family, you are part of it no matter what Love em or Not....then again do you like them cos maybe they don't find you particulary likeable either...but still love you unconditionally...well sometimes,as hatred also can rear it's ugly head along with jealousy...

Blood is thicker than water as they saying goes, and we only know what family violence occurs around xmas and family gatherings... so when you asked your question my answer would be to LOVE someone first you would have to LIKE them. LOL.

Away from family ,it is a must to LIKE then LOVE follows cos I could not see it being a success without two going hand in hand together..♥

I should have been a psychology major to answer this one. The love that you feel for your family is different from the love that you will feel for your future mate and for other friends. The love for family members also allows you to be really aggravated by them and not like them, but like and love are very strongly mixed. It is easier to like someone without loving them.

Robert Heinlein wrote a teen book about twins and a star ship called Lewis and Clark. It touches on this subject it you want some non-tech talk on the subject. I've blanked on the title.

I think that you have to like someone to love them. But I understand where you are coming from. I think what you are saying is that sometimes we cant stand their ways, actions, and maybe even some stuff they do that we cant understand why they do this.

If I don't respect someone - family or not - I don't like them. If I don't like them and wouldn't want them as a friend, I don't love them either.

My mother was a mean horrible person, she not only is not someone that I would want as a friend, I wouldn't want her as a part of my family. She was my mother. She gave me life. But the wrong she did to me during her life made me not like her or love her.

Its not required we like our family - but we do need to like them in order to love them. Family can drive us nuts - especially around the holidays. We dislike their actions but we don't usually dislike them.

No, you can't love someone unless you like and respect them first.

Every situation is different. I feel the same way with my family and friends. I think that when they piss you off it makes you feel a certain way. believe it or not you do like them.
