The Ford Escape is GREAT. If you are looking for a smaller SUV, that will comfortably hold 4 full grown people and a nice rear storage area.
From a functionality and durability standpoint, they are great...
Just be sure you are equiping it right. The Escape comes in an XLS Manual, XLS, XLT and Limited. (each with their varying options)
Front Wheel Drive or All Wheel Drive
They also come in manual, and automatic.
4cyl or 6.
Power everything or fewer power features standard.
6disc cd or single disc cd
For me, PERSONALLY, i think the 4cyl is underpowered.
I would want an automatic, and I would want an AWD.
And a word of caution on the Escape Hybrid. The electric motor runs only at 25mph and below. GREAT for bumper to bumper rush hour. BAD if you do a lot of highway driving, and see very little bumper to bumper.

You always find someone who has bad things or bad experiences with a certain vehicle, while others have nothing but great things to say. I have a 2 friends who bought the ford escape and they Both love it. I don't care for fords(personal preferance i guess I LOVE my Blazer:) But as an SUV owner i have to say, this is not a car.... It is an SUV. Many people do not realize that although technology has advanced trucks and SUV's to handle much better now than yesteryear they still handle differently...... If you decide to get it enjoy and be safe....

Yes they have lots of problems. Check out Consumer Reports Guide to Used Vehicles at your local book store or online. BUT- if your buying it from a dealer you should be ok as long as you get a real good warranty with it! AND I MEAN A REAL GOOD HEALTHY WARRANTY so you are completely protected, lol. But I wouldn't buy it from a private individual because you really do not know why they are getting rid of it anyways.

Absolutely. I know 4 owners myself. Excellent vehicle.
But if you are really worried about quality and problems, check out edmunds.com and read their forums on the Escape.
Hope this helps. And enjoy your Escape should you choose to buy one.

Out of a few of those German manufacturers i think of Audi is the nicest to force. yet this could be a query purely you may answer - you may attempt all of them and spot what you like and which inserts YOU terrific. Asking random strangers to spend your 55k is basically stupid, as isn't figuring out to purchase a motor vehicle basically on account which you stumble on it to be an 'old guy motor vehicle'.
