We got our son a Lego Advent Calendar, and gave him this present this evening. There are "windows" that you open that are numbered 1 - 24.... one on each day until Christmas (each window has a lego toy in it) I can't remember. Do you start with number 24, and countdown to one? Or do you start with number 1 (as in December 1st) and go up to 24?

Good question! I was wondering the same thing! I think last year we stuck with the days of the calendar, that way we always remembered what day we should be on if we forgot a day... But this year we started backwards so we can count down the days until Christmas. The kids seem to enjoy that. :)

So, I guess it doesn't matter, because you end up with the same result either way. And as I am coming into this question late, hopefully you've already started!

In my family we would use it as a countdown start at 24 and go to 1.

It's a calender of December, essentially, so you start with the 1st, then open one a day until the 24th.
