Send him a certified letter saying that if he doesn't fix it within three days, you are going to hire someone to fix the furnace, and then deduct the amount of bill from your rent. By doing this, you are giving him a chance (if you just fix it on your own, he could scream that you didn't give him a chance to act first). Mention the clause in the rental agreement that says he is responsible for maintenance or appliances. If all else fails, take him to small claims court and ask damages for breach of contract and inconvenience in having to freeze. And find another place to live cuz this sounds like a losing environment.

Call your city's health department. Most have a rule that the landlord must provide heat. They take it seriously if a landlord is not and can put a hold on his collecting your rent.

Call the code enforcement officer in your town or city. Check with City Hall. You can also call the building inspector.
Do not worry about getting kicked out because your landlord cannot kick you out for reporting him!!

Hahaha theres a lot of useless answers here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, All you have to do is call someone out to fix the furnace and have it billed to the landlord........He might not like it but what can he do

ask him if you can stay at his house until furnace is fixed. If not call the local housing authorty. Ask local Police who to talk to...
