Arithmatics deals with constants i.e. numbers ... whereas algebra deals with variables like x, y, a, b, c, etc., which may take any value depending the given/defined conditions. So, arithmatic sum is nothing but sum of two or more constant numbers like 2 + 3 = 5. Algebraic sum is sum of two or more variables. for eg. x+y, a+b+c etc.

The algebraic sum of two sets X and Y of numbers is a set that contains all possible sums with one term from X and another from Y.
For example., the algebraic sum of the intervals [0,1] and [1,2] is [1,3], because if you take one number from [0,1] and one from [1,2] then the greatest result you can get is 3 and the smallest you can get is 1.
The algebraic sum of a set X and a number y consists of the sums of y and each of the elements of X. For example,
[0,1]+5=[5,6], because taking an element from [0,1] and adding 5 to it gives 5 at least and 6 at most.
Arithmetic sum is just an ordinary sum of two numbers (which can be denoted by variables like a,b,x,y,etc. as well) with no sets of numbers involved.

Arithmetic or arithmetics (from the Greek word αριθμός = number) is the oldest and most elementary branch of mathematics, used by almost everyone, for tasks ranging from simple daily counting to advanced science and business calculations. In common usage, the word refers to a branch of (or the forerunner of) mathematics which records elementary properties of certain operations on numbers. Professional mathematicians sometimes use the term higher arithmetic as a synonym for number theory, but this should not be confused with elementary arithmetic.
The traditional arithmetic operations are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, although more advanced operations (such as manipulations of percentages, square root, exponentiation, and logarithmic functions) are also sometimes included in this subject.
ALGEBRAIC SUM:
1.As distinguished from arithmetical sum, the aggregate of two or more numbers or quantities taken with regard to their signs, as + or -, according to the rules of addition in algebra; thus, the algebraic sum of -2, 8, and -1 is 5.
2.The aggregate of two or more numbers, magnitudes,
quantities, or particulars; the amount or whole of any
number of individuals or particulars added together; as,
the sum of 5 and 7 is 12.
3. A quantity of money or currency; any amount, indefinitely;
as, a sum of money; a small sum, or a large sum. ``The sum
of forty pound.''
