I want to get a job working with the environment such as measuring the air quality, water samples etc. The college I am looking into offers Environmental Technology would that be the degree I need or should I look into something else? Do I need a 2 year or 4 year degree? I was also curious, how hard is it to actually find a job like that when I finish school?

I have an Engineering degree in Thermal and Environmental Engineering (since 1986). I think Environmental Technology degree could get you into the area of measuring air and water qualities. But since you are going to school anyway, why not get an Environmental Engineering degree? The way things look for the future, I think Environmental sciences are just opening up. Consider the global pollution, global warming, etc. I think this will be a field that will need a lot of people. You are more or less getting in on things at the ground level. Environmental controls and regulations are really taking off now. If you can get a Technology degree, you can get an Engineering degree. Take advantage of your young age now while you still have it. Use your brain power and get all you can.

Since you're already a Yahoo member, go to Yahoo jobs and type in the job title you eventually want to have. Once the search is complete it should show you several listings. Go through them and see what the qualifications are. They should also list what degrees you need as well as give you an idea of where to look for jobs in the future and how much you can expect to get paid.

You also might want to contact one of the listings and ask a few questions. Just let them know you're a student and trying to decide the best route to take in your educational goal.

Another thing is contacting the advisor for your major or the department head and ask the same questions. They should be able to give you the info you need.

Good Luck!
