Most first time moms dont know they are having one until the very end. I had one because I got pre-eclampsia at 37 weeks (extremely high blood pressure caused by the pregnancy) and my baby was Frank Breech (Both feet above the head) I had an emergency c-section with 45 minutes notice. Also the main cause of c section is the baby's head cannot pass through the birth canal. You will not know this until delivery. Dont worry c-section is not that bad. I understand anxiety about surgery but there is only a very very very minute chance of something going wrong during one.Congrats on the baby

My son was breech, but that's not why they did the section. I was in labor for 16 hours after having been induced and he never entered the birth canal. My doctor at one point when she had checked me felt his head and said he had a lot of hair, so we never thought about him turning and being breech. He turned during a contraction I assume or something becuase when they did the c-section not only were they shocked he was breech but also by how long he was because I am very small only 5 foot. The decided to do a c-section on me because after 16 hours I never had the urge to push (there was nothing there to push), was fully dilated and efaced, my epidural had wore off and the pain was excruciating. Since I was fully dialated and efaced the contractions were one on top of the other and I had no releif in between contractions, the pain was unreal and this was my third baby. My first was vaginally and went fine but my second was vaginally and the epidural wore off with her too. This was worse than both of those put together. Well my doctor decided I could not go on any longer in that much pain or I would pass out. They had to totally knock me out and perform a c-section.

there are alot of reasons you might have to have a c section. you could have gestational diabetes and the baby may be too large to come out and then you may have them and still deliver fine with no problems. the baby could be breech or transversed and you may have to have surgery and again you may not. there are alot of advances in medicine today. i can tell you from personal experience you may not know until the last minute. i had twins and when i was in labor both of my girls were head down ready to come out normally and after i delivered the first the second turned sideways under my ribs and the doctor tried everything to turn her but she would go right back to laying sideways. then an hour alter my water broke and i was rushed to the emergency room for a c section. alot of times doctors can tell you well in advance so you can prepare for months and sometimes it is last minute but do not be scared. c section is hard but the trick that i did was take as many of the pain killers as i could for the next couple of days and got up and made myself walk. if i hadn't then it would have taken a long time to recover. it has been almost eight months and i am still healing as far as the numbness and all. if you would rather have a c section you can talk to your doctor about it and see if they recommend it or not and sometimes doctors might recommend one for you. if you do not feel comfortable with this then get a second opinion most def. because some doctors truly believe c section is the only way to go. good luck to you.

A lot of different things can go wrong to require a need for a c-section. For example, if the baby's head is too big for your pelvis, or if you have a prolonged labor and the baby starts to go into distress (the baby's heartrate drops) they might do a c-section. I ended up having to have one because my blood pressure was severly high and after 2 days of labor, 2 prostaglandin treatments (that's a gel they put on your cervix to ripen it), LOTS of pitocin, and having my water broken I still was only dilated to a 3 if the doctor stretched me. They didn't feel it was safe with my blood pressure being so high to continue waiting. I found out I needed one a few minutes before they came in to give me a spinal for the c-section. Some people find out sooner. It varies greatly from person to person. You should make a list of questions (include this one) and ask your doctor about it at your first (or next) prenantal visit. In the meantime, there's a wealth of information in the book What To Expect When You're Expecting. you might really benefit for buying or borrowing a copy from someone. Good Luck!

Sometimes:
- the baby is too big to fit out the birth canal
- the baby's heartrate drops..or stops, which could cause brain damage, they'll take the baby out right away
- any serious stress on you or your baby, they will do a c section
- the cord may wrapped around the neck not allowing the baby to proceed downwards
- The baby is bum first...OUCH
- the placenta may attach itself right over your cervix, so there's no way out for the baby...only by section..
there may be more reasons, but these are all i can think of now..
good luck and congrats on the bebe.
Don't worry about a section. Chances are you'll deliver naturally which is the healthiest way for both you and baby.

There are basically two main reasons that a doc will decide to do a c-section, with a third I will also mention. The first is that the baby starts showing signs of stress during labor, including elevated heart rate. The second would be if the baby didn't turn head down, or what you might hear referred to as "breech". The third is dependant on where you live and who your doctor is, and that is multiples, twins and what not. Around here, they deliver all twins by c-sect.

I had both my 2 babies c section..
the first baby,, my hips didnt move.. naturally hormones are supposed to work to loosen up the whole region down there and your hips naturally spread.. mine didnt.. So they were forced to do a csection..
my 2nd baby, well matters were certainly different.. That little girl was huge.. I ruptured my uterus in labor and it was an emergency c-section delivery.. .. Thank God, she and I were fine...
note:.. some doctors also just like doing c-sections cause its a lot easier on them as for things going wrong with normal deliveries.. Some body contious women also dont want to tear or go through natural delivery and prefer c-sections.. There are thousands of reasons why you could have a c-section and be perfectly fine for it... .. Just discuss issues with your doctor...

Oh wow there are a ton of things that could cause you to have to have a c-section some things include
narrow pelvis which they would have already told you if you had that. The baby is too big, the cord is wrapped around babies neck, you have pushed for more than three hours with no progress, The baby is in distress, the babies heartbeat rapidly drops, toxemia, ruptured uterus, placenta abruption, there are alot of things that could cause you to have to have a c-section but most of them you wouldnt know until it comes time to have to have one. Best of luck to you and CONGRATS ON THE NEW LITTLE ONE.

I was preclamptic and I was just going on my 34th week.. They stablelized me and kept me in the hospital. When they did an ultra-sound they told me that my daughter was breech and gave me the choice of tring to flip her in my belly or deliver her breech or the c-section. I first did the flip which is called a vergion they tryed 3 times it was very very very uncomforable she didn't budge. Then the Dr. said that he was willing to deliver he breech so I chose that route. After 12 hrs. of labor I recieved the epadural Emie went under stress because the contractions
were coming to hard and to fast that the next thing I knew I was in the operating room for a c-section!! It's funny how you don't forget important details in your life!! Good luck on your new arival!

usually its because the baby is birch (feet down) usually the doc will try to turn the baby first. Me I had a c section but mine was because I had pushed for 3 hrs and then they gave me the choice. But I am sure that there are a few different reasons they do a c section. There could be complications that make it to were the doc's have to do that.
