1. For your Anti-Virus.........................

Personally, I use the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

2. For your Firewall......................

An excellent free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It can pass firewall "leak tests" that even a lot of the "paid-for" firewalls cannot pass.

And Comodo has a great support forum. Where the CEO / President of the company might even himself answer your question! Check it out at:

There is no such thing as best firewall or antivirus. However if you want a good one you can go www.download.com to see the top 10 trials version. If they suit you then go ahead and buy the full version. Or if your looking for freeware, you can try AVG anti virus which is quite a good excellent freeware anti virus and has update more than thrice weekly. You can find it at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
this anti virus has do me well for 1 year + already. And best of all it is totally free =) . Plus the AVG also has spyware detector as a seperate download which is also free.As for firewall, a normal window firewall of window xp will do most of the job.Hope this help you =)

Generally speaking, hardware firewalls that run on open-source software are your best bet. Linksys products are well known for their use of open source software within them. I had great success with BlackICE, though it's around $40 USD. There are lots of free "application-based software firewalls" out there but I don't recommend them because they're too easy to get messed up by the users.

I prefer http://www.free-av.com for free antivirus that has outperformed Norton's for me.

Free will not work like you need it to work. Try McAfee, the best, never in 7 years have I had a problem. It is worth the money. I had Norton and within 6 months I had a virus. Did not like it. I give you my word.

Firewalls are more of an annoyance than they are useful.

All of the anti-virus programs are good. I prefer Norton Anti-Virus myself.

There's a free one out there called AVG which can be found at the link below.

Best way to avoid viruses is keep your computer and operating system up to date, don't open email attachments, and avoid installing software that you are not familiar with.

Norton-Antivirus Internet Security 2007. It has constant proctection from trojans, worms and all the dangerous stuff. Plus any virus in your system would be terminated or removed, if Norton is kept up-to-date it will work affectivly

If you want 1 program then I think McAfee is the best, though it is not free. For best firewall, zone alarm.
