if you can take a ppi drug for heartburn with enzymes? It has marshmallow root extract, slippery elm bark, and plant enzymes (amylase, lipase and cellulase), and gamma-oryzanol (from rice bran) in it.

I know, I forgot to ask my doc. Just thought I'd ask on the chance that someone might know.

its not pepto bismol. Its a digestive enzyme from the healthfood store. Could be that I ate brownies after I had dinner. Gumbo.

So I just dont know if it was ok, really for me to take the enzymes, after taking the protinex(ppi). Hopefully, I'll get it figured out, because I did get heartburn again a few hours later.

Sounds like you are describing Pepto-bismol.
However, though it is used for upset stomach, it actually is not a PPI.

PPI refer to a very specific collection of synthetic chemicals (medications) including omeprazole, esomeprozole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, and rabeprazole. These act to block the proton pumps in the stomach lining (hence PPI = proton pump inhibitor).

Pepto-bismol, which is a mixture dervived from extracts and synthetically produced chemical equvialents of extracts from marshmallow root, elm bark, and various enzymes, does not directly affect the proton pumps.

I hope that helps.

That's really a question best left to your doctor.
