Since you know your dilation and effacement, it sounds like you've been to the doctor recently. If the cramps are not at even intervals, you're probably having Braxton-Hicks contractions as your body prepares to push a newly made human being into existence. I'd suggest a trip to your doctor's office, not necessarily the ER, to make sure everything is fine. Just call him up, explain what's happening, and ask to come in on the same day to get looked at. That's the doctor's job.

I would continue to monitor the contractions and if they get worse, closer together and you have to start beathing through them, then I'd probably go in. You may want to give your OB a heads up that you think you might be ni early labor, but I wouldn't go in yet unless you wanna spend a long time in the hospital....
I got a lot of braxton hicks contraxtions my last month of pregnancy.. my whole stomach would get hard but there wouldn't realy be any pain....I knew when it was a real contraction cause it hurt and had to stop what I was doing.
Just so you know the dialation and effacement can mean nothing.. because yuo can sit at 4 cm dialated for weeks or 50% effaced or any combo and no baby.. and you can go from 0 cm to 10 in a matter of minutes.. so just keep an eye on the contractions and good luck :)

...doctor.... now...
anyway, welcome to the wide world of parenthood! I would go ahead and call the doctor and see what he or she has to say. Up until three hours before I had my daughter I was not having normal or regular contractions, they hurt yes but they weren't evenly space and one was surely not like the other.
Your doctor will understand if you call him, or go into the ER, because you are getting down to your final days, and sometimes that extra bit of reassurance and instructional advice is helpful.
Now stop wasting time by reading this and the other and go ahead and call the doctor or go do what you need to do!

Sounds like stage one of labor to me!! Congrats! Call the office just to let him/her know what is going on and then pay close attention to your contractions (time them) then when it is impossible to talk through the contractions then you know it is time. Good luck and god bless

trust me wait until they are more even. because you don't want to go to the hospital to soon and have them keep you. you will be more comfy at home.and you will be able to eat if you are at home.once you have been admitted to the hospital all you get is ice chips. congratulations!!
