Right after the washer cycle ends, take the laundry out and stick it in the dryer. this will eliminate the smell.

It's called mold and mildew - micro-organisms that grow rapidly in wet environments at room temperature with limited sunlight. They can cause foot rot and jock itch if they transfer from your clothes to your body, as well as allergic reactions such as cold symptoms and even hives. Leaving your wet clothes in the wash basin for longer than a couple of hours is an unhealthy practice. If you must leave them there, at least find the fortitude to spray some Lysol in there to slow down the process or take them out of the washer and put them in a clothes basket in a sunny/breezy place while you wait for the dryer to come available. You might even string a clothes line if dryer availablity is the problem instead of just plain laziness. But if it's due to the fact that you have to be gone for days at a time then either wait until you have time to do the whole cycle, take your dirty clothes with you and use a laundromat somewhere along the way, or add a little extra bleach to the washing powder as your clothes will tolerate in order to fend off the inevitable growth of microbes.

If you can help it don`t leave your clothes in the washer too long as they will get a sour smell but I mean a day or two. I have left mine in overnight and nothing smelled. Otherwise try to put them into the dryer as soon as washer is done...

The easiest fix is to take your laundry out when it is done and not wait a few hours.
