the reason that it smells is because it starts to mold and become funky, all you have to do is just wash the clothes again

There is a very easy solution to this....After you wash your clothes put them in the dryer. You can't leave clothes in the washer very long or they will mildew and that gives you the sour smell. If you do leave them in washer and they mildew, just wash them again and put them in the dryer. But when you do this, guess what....You are using more detergent, electricity and a higher utility bill. :)

You don't have to clean your washer, just make sure that before you start a load of laundry that you will be around long enough to put it in the dryer immediately, ESPECIALLY with dark colors, because one is not able to put bleach in those loads. Also, use baking soda in addition to your regular detergent.

If you leave it in the washer for long it could be mildew, which leaves a smell somthing like you described. Or it could be you washer. I would run it through light cycle, with a little vinneger and baking soda.

Right after the washer cycle ends, take the laundry out and stick it in the dryer. this will eliminate the smell.

i have your answer!! my sister has this problem, you need to re-wash and add a cup or so of white vinegar. i promise it works! i guess it has Odor killing properties, you know like using vinegar and water to cleanse and deodorize, as in douche. Vinegar is also an excellent window cleaner. it works better than Windex. just wipe with a coffee filter. also for your coffee maker. and although it smells strong it does wonders if you have a sunburn. it also makes for a great sweet and sour slaw. now, go wash your cloths. you'll be amazed.

the sour smell is mold. You can't leave the clothes in there without putting them in the dryer after the cycle.

The dampness from the clothes causes the smell, I think. You can rewash the clothes and then immediately put them in the dryer. Also, put a dryer sheet in the dryer to freshen your clothes (Bounce, etc.)
