Hog-nose snakes look like rattle snakes, they rattle their tail in leaves to produce the same sound, they hiss and puff up a lot, but rarely bite (any snake can and will bite, but some do it more often than others), they are not venomous, and if frightened they flip over on their backs, open their mouths, and pretend they are dead for several minutes.

It sounds like a hog nose snake. The hog nose snake will very rarely ever bite some thing larger than itself. The venom they have is equivlant to a bee sting to us. But beware if your allergic to bee stings. They will normally play dead as a defense against some thing bigger than them selves basically like your self when aproached.
