Its interesting to see how Americans standby and cheer or just plainly do nothing when abuses are hurled to their president. Is America such a country with no culture that this kind of behaviour is ok? They are making fun of your president in Canada(with the broke back mountain movie canadian version), the Venezuelan president came and called your president a devil and nobody openend their mouths!!! The world sits back and watches as Americans abuse and taunt their leader shamelessly. Isnt there a man or woman or child who is capable of standing up and saying Enough is Enough? When a country is suffering, America comes to their aid, when people are hungry, America comes to their aid, when a Tsunami strike, America shows up, I mean, thanks alot for all your help. We are very grateful. But please, the world respects you America and believe me, we are soooo amazed when we see how you treat your president. We wonder whether that is some sort of entertainment for us!! Is it?

I think you need to sit back and look at it from a REAL perspective.

First, Bush was quick to help other countries but let a lot of his own people die here in Katrina. So there goes that theory of yours.

All public figures are public figures who get insulted by one way or another.

I find it hard to believe that you have never said a bad thing about a person. It doesn't have to be the president but anyone in general. Unless you have truly stayed away from gossip, then you are no one to talk.

Also, Bush talks and puts himself in that position, calling people names and has been known to insult many.

And the president of Valenzuela had every right to do that.
Are you that ignorant? Did you miss the part where we illegally invaded Iraq?

You must not know much about politics, because Bush is not the only president people talk about.

How is it that Bush went beyond the UN to run the war in Iraq?
How is is that Bush has been a walking contradiction from finding Osama to swtiching to Hussein.

We in the United States have had a long, long history of making fun of our leaders. While this can certainly get out of hand, it is also a very real part of our culture and--IMO--a valuable one. We tease and mock and criticize and speak out mind about our leaders. That is a good thing.

Our presidents have vast power at their disposal. It does them good to be forced to remember they are men, not infallible prophets nor super-geniuses above the rest of us. And it does us good to treat our elected officials as something other than revered Monarchs, Popes or Potentates.

first of all he is a devil don't tell me the war on Iraq is to free them from Saddam Saddam is not the only dictator on this planet Iraq is about oil and safety to Israel that's it .
more than 650k people died because of bush even Saddam was not capable of that in 3 years he did kill a lot but not this fast i know that the Americans didn't kill all of them but they are the reason for it when a president cares about money more than the name of the country among the nation does not deserve to be one.

I think most Americans like our President a whole lot,I personally think he's a great leader as he doesn't change his mind because of opinion polls like some politicians. As for Hugo Chavez he's not worth a comment,a real leader and politician doesn't need to criticize other leaders or call them devils to be popular.I thank you for your comments about our country, that's why its a great country.

Some people have no respect for their leaders. It is sad - even when Clinton was being impeached and I was totally disappointed and frustrated by his behavior, I still respected him due to his office. It seems as though people are less willing to do that these days.

I assure you, there is still a vocal 30% and right-wing media in this country (ABC Radio Networks & Fox News) that give him plenty of love. And the bumper stickers from the 2004 election. And the opinions in the opinion pages lauding him or blasting anyone with a taste of liberalism as bad/evil/etc.

That's a big part of the beauty of the system we have here. The freedom to speak your mind without worrying you might disappear in the night, never to be seen again. What some fail to understand, whether by lack of intelligence or too much spite is that the same freedom to express yourself applies to those who might disagree with you. Everyone is free to voice their opinion even if it might make them appear to be a jackass at times. AS a Centrist, I have a lot of latitude to be able to agree or disagree with either side freely. I just don't get ino the silly name calling.

You are so right and I greatly thank you for your insights from Canada.
Enough is enough.
But honestly, the abusers are so loud and destructive that the true American loyalists are ignored and consequently blamed.
It does make me ashamed of the uncivilized nature of their protests and taunts. It solves nothing. It DOES compound our problems. They need to find a more constructive way to make changes with a life that makes them so unhappy.
They think they will go down in history as change makers. Insane!

Part of it is an exercise in freedom. Part of it is sour grapes. The left is upset that they only had John Kerry to run against him and JK is the least liked politician now. See what a big mouth and little brain got Kerry this time? Bush is doing his job despite the media.
