It is the kind of oil that is used in a vaporizer...some kind of mineral oil I think. And my shirt is red, so I need something that won't remove the color along with the oil. Thanks for any suggestions!!!

First I would try taking some detergent and warm water and a brush like an old toothbrush and rubbing the detergent and water right onto the oil spot, and brushing it a little to make sure it gets into the spot. Then run it thru your regular laundry cycle. Or you could take it to the dry cleaners and see what they think.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, there are times when organic methods are not effective. Oil requires a solvent to break up the molecules and remove the stain.

CAUTION: Test any cleaning product/method in a hidden spot for fiber/color change.

For oil or grease on fabrics spray WD40 or DeSolvit on a clean rag and blot. It needs time to dissolve the oil so allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Then blot with a clean cloth. It may take a treatment or two, but it works. Once removed launder per garment care label.

WD 40 is a solvent with an oil base. I would not recommend applying more oil to the situation. If you try a solvent cleaner, work with it outdoors because it is smelly, volatile, and flammable. You can use lighter fluid, Afta, Oops, Goo Gone or any other solvent cleaner you prefer. The important thing after flushing the fabric (outdoors) is that you wash, rinse, and air dry in a bucket or pan before putting in washer/dryer. Some recommend just air drying. Do not put solvents in washer and dryer because they are flammable.

Shout works great on some kinds of oils. spray it directly on the stain & rub it in..... then rince it out with warm water to see if it has lifted. If that doesn,t work try orange oil.... orange oil will remove black motor oil out of my hubbys work clothes!!

Spray contact cleaner used by electricians will dissolve the oil, or brake cleaner spray used by mechanics.
