My car was doing the same thing. It was a noise that said "I'm trying really hard to heat your car, but don't count on me to keep doing it." The blower motor was going in my car and I had to have it replaced. It actually cost a lot less than I thought it would. But I was actually able to continue using the heater for about seven months after it first started making the noise before it totally died.

If your car has air conditioning water can accumulate near the fan's impeller. This is caused by a plugged drain hole or a plugged outlet hose in the underdash assembly basin. Before spending a lot of money have the drain and its hose checked for blockage. I have this done at every oil change.

most likely something's in the fan. Also could be a broken fan blade, loose fan mount, shot ( bad bearings ) fan motor

Your heating fan is loose. Count on replacing it. As much trouble as it is to get to, when you get it out to repair it, you might as well replace it.
