You should have researched before that animals are a lot of work. It's your own fault you can't take care of animals.

Dont keep an animal that you dont want. If you do, you might end up neglecting it or not giving it the best treatment, and probably not on purpose. You are doing the right thing to give him up. Find an owner that will take good care of him. Post an ad in the paper, on yahoo, on craiglist, on petfinder, etc, and find him a home yourself, instead of dumping him off at an animal shelter. This way you can screen for an owner you are comfortable in keeping him, and you wont be contributing to filling up an animal shelter which could use the room for other homeless animals in need. Ferrets tend to find homes quick, because they are such great creatures, and there isnt a million of them being adopted out. Dont expect anyone to pay you a whole lot for him either, you arent getting your 400 bucks back. But you will be getting the comfort of knowing that you did the right thing and the ferret is in a good home.
Good luck, and research any animals, even pet sit if you can, before you make a decision to get that kind of animal. And always adopt!

Your ferret will be so much better off in a home that can care for him the way he needs to be cared for. They are a lot of work and take a lot of an owners time. If you had more time he wouldn't be pooping all over the place either.
Please use this experience to tell other people about ferrets and what to expect. There are so many people out there who just see CUTE and think they just have to have one. I don't guess you had to take yours to the vet yet since you only had him 2 months. Ferrets can get rather expensive in that aspect too.
I'm sorry you're out of all that money, but it's probably better this way.
Pets rely on us humans to take care of them and provide them with what they need and that includes time.
Think twice about getting another pet. Puppies need your time too.

No, your ferret will not hate you. Are you giving him to someone who has previously owned ferrets?
I use to own ferrets. At one time, I had 7 of them. Ferrets are a lot of work, and do best in the homes of people who have owned them before, and understand how demanding they are.
I've adopted quiet a few ferrets in the past who's owners had to give them up for one reason, or another. The ferrets were all very happy to go to a new home, where they had lots of toys, and attention.
Your ferret should do well in a new home as long as that person understands ferrets, and don't worry, the ferret will not be mad at you!

Since you don't want to spend the time to train your ferret, I would suggest giving him to someone who really does love the little thing. They can be potty trained. And you should have done research on ferrets BEFORE you bought him. It serves you right having to shell out that amount of money without researching them. Give him to your friend. It sounds as if he will take care of him and your ferret will be happier.

Ferrets are alot of work and need lots of attention. Young ferrets are even more work. So maybe you should have considered purchasing an older one. Once ferrets are potty trained they dont poo all over the place and are easier to clean up after. But your ferret wont hate you. You are doing the best thing for him by giving him to someone who has the time to dedicate to him. Wish you the best.

Sure do understand. I have had to let them go to other people when they were to much to handle. Ferrets are weasles and as such their Potty training is training YOU to to put a CATbox in the right place and keep it clean. the odor of Ferret is the same as skunk/mink/martin and Wolverine. it comes out in the urine even if decented. I like the odor others do not.
chicken livers are loved by all, sneek some to them before you part and each time you visit later, they will look forward to you coming. keep it to your self and hide it in a special pocket or your sock.

Don't worry, he'll be ok. At least he will have a new owner that loves animals, so hopefully they will take good care of him and be able to give them the attention you couldn't provide. He wont hate you.

get a cage for it, most people keep them in cages when they are not home, then you wont have to give it away, and its easier to clean the cage! but remember to clean it once a day for odor reasons.
