Were almost 9 trillion in the red, yet we keep spending spending spending so we have enough nukes to blow the earth up 11 times over and invade everyone else's privacy, neglecting the poor and needy of countries including our own. Also, if our country is ever hit with a serious epidemic, were toast with our healthcare system.

Shouldn't it be a major concern?

When Clinton left office Allan Greenspan said the biggest problem we face economically is, we might pay off the debt to fast. A mere 6 years later and we have record deficits, spending have increased by 46%, taxes were cut for the first time in the history of man during a war and our economy is stagnant. The debt is a huge problem that is blowing up our trade deficit devaluing the dollar and mortgaging our future to the Chinese. If China ever decides to unload its portion of our debt it will cause our economy to fall into a depression and remove our currency as the currency of trade causing irreparable harm to our power both economically and militarily. When we sell debt to foreigners at the level that is being done we are giving our sovereignty to another country and today we are giving it to a communist country. Why is it that the so called conservatives do not demand we maintain our sovereignty and stop the decider?

It is a bit bothersome, isn't it? When you consider that China is financing the wars in Iraq and Afganistan, we should be very, very worried. I read over a year ago that the national debt amounted to about $30,000 for every man, woman and child in the U.S. There will be a day of accounting, so try to prepare as best you can.

YES, because the debt will cause a downfall in the already slumping economy(compared to the 90's) although it is what keeps us going now(look at American history, after all wars).

It should be a major concern but I am quiet sure that it is not the concern of the current administration, not an iotta of concern.

Yes, it should be.

The only consolation I can give is that more socially just societies' health care systems would fail too if they don't have budgets to back them up.

Man, we need some system of public health care!

you bet! America lives on credit, not only its government but even its people. Imagine if foreign governments decided all at once to sell their T-bills and switched dollar reserves to euros... it would be mayhem

Yes, you would certainly think so. However, according to Dubya's creepy Uncle Dick, "Deficits don't matter." So, we shouldn't be worried, right? Riiiiiight...
Man, our government is so f_cking stupid!
