allot of the stuff for "free" will mostly be on a trial basis or not all the components will be available. check with your current Internet service provider and see what they offer, my ISP offers mcaffee for free. Windows has its own firewall with limited capabilities. you can use a free download from lava soft called ad-aware, to remove unwanted spy-ware.

AVG software; do a yahoo search on "free AVG download", it'll last you for about six months until you can get a real one.
