Can anyone tell me how long an average commute (in minutes) would be from the New Braunfels area to Fort Sam Houston?
How are the New Braunfels schools compared to other surrounding areas?

I have known people stationed at Randolph AFB that lived in New Braunfels and liked the town. Good Luck at Ft. Sam!

New Braunfels is a great town. I don't really know much about the schools in New Braunfels, but I would assume that they're good since that is a somewhat affluent area. I think that the commute would probably average close to 45 minutes. The traffic can be pretty bad on I 35 sometimes. Have you considered Alamo Heights it is very close to Fort Sam, and has very good schools.

New Braunfels is nice, but it will definitely be a commute for you. If you are stationed at Fort. Sam, then definitely check out Alamo Heights. It's centrally located, safe, and the schools are nationally recognized. In fact, there is a supreme court case on how excellent the schools are comparatively. New Braunfels is kind of cowboy-ish and faraway in my opinion. AH is like a small town but close enough to downtown and Ft. Sam to have a life. It's definitely worth the cost too.

Fort Sam Houston is about a 40 min comute. New Braunfels population is about 42,000 compared to San Antonio which is the size of San diego..The Schools are pretty well the same everywhere. New Braunfels is known for its river and the Schlitterbon water park which was voted best in the u.s.a. There are alot of tourists in the summer..Too busy for me..Its growing all the time..If you ever go to New Braunfels check out the little town of Gruene..It has the oldest Dance Hall in Texas and shops and restaraunts..Gristmill is a good choice...Good Luck..I have of pics of New Braunfels. If you want I will email them to you..

I am a graduate of NBHS. The schools are good. It is a small town attitude. 35,000. The Germans take a great deal of pride in their city. There are alot of Outsiders that are moving in the area. I quite honestly think you are better off in Boerne, but it is farther away. NEISD has some very good schools also and size wise it is about the same a NB. Technologywise, NBISD is a bit behind as in other areas like teacher's pay and special needs especially for gifted and talented. 30 minutes is a blessing if you can do that to Ft. Sam. Consider 45 min. or longer with the amount of traffic! Consider the Schertz Corridor or Garden Ridge. Consider Stone Oak or even the Redland Dr. area. Closer and good schools.

You would have to fight morning rush-hour traffic on I-35 and be stressed out from that, if you lived in New Braunfels. It's not very far, but can get congested.

Distance wise it's only about 30 miles, but you'll be on I-35 which is congested. If you've commuted along congested interstates before and didn't mind it, you should be fine.
