You can get AOL. The phone line you use is owned by BT, and NTL rent it from them and in turn rent it to you. You can use an NTL line to get AOL, however i would advise against AOL as i feel there are better sevices out there, such as NTL's OWN internet service.

BT own all the telephone lines in the UK. All the other operators you hear about, whether it be NTL, TalkTalk, Homecall or whoever, at the end of the day they still have to give BT money for using the lines. This is why its always gonna be cheaper to stay with BT in the long run.

Hi wwe2006,

Yes that means you cannot get AOL. There are two major types of internet in the UK. ADSL and Cable. ADSL travels down the phoneline, while cable travels down a fibre optic line. NTL is cable, and AOL is ADSL. For ADSL internet you need a BT (or similar) phoneline. However, you cannot use an NTL or Telewest phone line for ADSL. I thoroughly recommend http://www.blueyonder.co.uk as an ISP for cable.

You can get AOL but i wouldn't bother. I was with them for the last year and had nothing but trouble, slow download speeds and their application hogs your system. They also employ packet sniffing applications on their network to monitor how much you download and what you are downloading. If you are a heavy user they restrict your bandwidth to something that is only just above twice the speed of dialup. I am now on BT and its the best of all of them out there.

Duno, phone their helpline, or just try your NTL number
