Yeah! Read this:
"In January of this year, Gerard Way approached Scott Allie, senior managing editor at Dark Horse Comics, to see if the company would be into working with the singer on a comic book project. 'I didn't know how big My Chemical Romance was at the time,' says Allie. 'I was like, 'Okay, it's a comic project from some guy who's a rock star.' But in the end, it was his pitch that won me over.'
Way's creation, THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY, is a story involving a league of older superheroes who reconnect at the funeral of their mentor. While Way is an artistic talent in his own right, MCR's schedule prohibited him form drawing the book himself. Instead, the singer-who created the original character designs-will submit the finished scripts, while illustrator Gabriel Ba will draw the comic. 'He really wants to be involved in comics for real,' says Allie about Way's enthusiasm. 'He doesn't want to be some dilettante rocker who comes in and says, 'I have this vision, do this for me.' He has a really cool attitude about the work.'
Dark Horse hopes to have tht first installment of the story available by next spring, but Allie is well-aware that changing the Black Parade's schedule is easier said than drawn. He did however, leak a particularly interesting tidbit. 'The team is going to have to fight the Eiffel Tower in an upcoming story,' he says. 'We talked about it, and Gerard was like, 'I'm not sure what it's going to look like, but I know they're gonna fight the Eiffel Tower.' I know what level of crazy to shoot for, and I'm willing to wait and see.'"*
Pretty sweet, huh? Gotta love that guy!
