No. Babies don't breathe in the womb. They are transported oxygenated blood via the umbilical cord. However, sometimes the mother can have too much amniotic fluid. This is called polyhydramnios, and it indicates that the fetus may have some type of gastrointestinal disorder...
but no fetuses can't drown in the womb for the simple fact that they are not breathing in the womb. mom does it for them. their lungs don't really function until after birth

Actually, any human can breathe liquid if it has the right amount of oxygen pumped into it to keep us alive. Rats and Mice have been kept alive for hours in super-oxygenated water for experiments during the '70's and '80's. A great example is the movie "The Abyss" where in order to reach the bottom of the ocean floor, they wear a pressure suit which is then filled with an oxygenated liquid so that the pressure won't crush the diver.
Great question.

Because they get oxygen from the umbilical cord. Liquid flows in and out of babies lungs because they don't use them to breathe with yet. When the baby is born the liquid is suctioned out of the babies lungs or more often is expelled at the first breath.

thats right, they get there oxygen through the mothers blood through the umbilical cord, (never heard of this happening)they could only drown if the umbilical cord was cut. The fluid is called amniotic fluid

Just like what you just said, they "breathe" through their umbilical cord. They don't have to breathe on their own until they're born and the mucus is sucked out of their mouth and nose and their cord is cut.

commonly, our blood possibilities up oxygen in the lungs - hundreds of tiny blood vessels carry the blood close to to the exterior of the lungs, close sufficient that oxygen can bypass around the skinny layer of tissue and enter the blood. a similar is authentic of carbon dioxide, purely moving into the different course. in the womb, the fetus floats in amniotic fluid, so it has no thank you to respire. rather, it possibilities up oxygen from the mum. The fetus's blood flows throughout the time of the umbilical cord to the placenta, the place it particularly is blood vessels bypass heavily sufficient to the mum's blood vessels that oxygen can bypass over (like in the lungs). this way, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and distinctive food can flow between the mum and the fetus, even however their blood factors in no way certainly combination. the approach of childbirth triggers an entire host of differences in the baby. One result's the rerouting of blood vessels. in the womb, the fetus's blood furnish bypasses the lungs (for the reason that they are ineffective in the womb), and connects to the umbilical cord. for the period of childbirth, the blood vessels connecting to the umbilical cord close off, and blood travels to the lungs. previous this element, the baby is enormously plenty comparable to an person - all it particularly is left is enhance (length and proportions) and progression (the techniques and immune structures, between others).

Drowning is when you don't get oxygen. Because the baby gets it's oxygen from the mother, it doesn't drown in the amniotic fluid.
