This is hard to believe. I have a Dell Inspiron 5000e laptop that I want to connect to a wireless network. I have called Dell twice and twice went on to their Internet tech support site and asked "What card do I need?" I got FOUR different answers!

Does anyone know the correct card for the external slot of this laptop?

Thanks!

here is probably the 5th different answer :-)))

a good wireless card (PCMCIA) is the Netgear MA521. it's only of the 802.11b (11Mbit) standard, but the advantage is the extremely small antenna (and it's pretty cheap), so only half an inch is looking out of the slot, showing a power and a link LED.
i use this card on my Inspiron 3800. this laptop is one year older than the 5000e and the wireless card works great on it.

concerning speed: if you need it only for internet then you have no drawback (what ISP has 11Mbit download rate?), but if you use it in your home network for sharing files then the speed is not that great.

here is an offer on ebay (hard to find nowadays, because no one want to have the 11Mbit cards).

I use a Belkin. A friend has a Linksys. Make sure they up to date. I not sure of the numbers stuff. Like 802.11 B/G?
Best Buy and Wal-Wort have them. Pay around $40 and it should work, follow instructions to install. Mine I had to load software first and then plug in the card. So, read your instructions or get someone who will.
Below a link to best buy to look. If, you get a Mimo or whatever, make sure it backward compatible to the 802.11 B/G so it work OK with older Routers. If, you have any questions, you can email me. But, most there should work. I would just get something around $40, those $80 + seem high.
