We are up in space an awful lot for exploration. The space station is manned and the folks who are up there return and others take their place routinely in the shuttle. Have you seen the shuttles or space station? I have seen it 4 times in two years orbiting the earth when they tell us when it can be sighted on the news. I don't know if where you live you can see it, but it seems about as far away as a plane (10,000 ft or so) even though it is much higher.

Necessity drives the expeditions. Right now there is not an objective demanding moon visiting. Earth these years is in serious peril and space travel isn't as exciting for the crowds as it use to.

The next generation of space vehicle, dubbed "Orion" will be setting their sites on the moon and Mars. At this point, we have no choice, what with the planet reaching 10 billion souls in 50 years and prospects of zero fossil fuels, zero coal and other natural resources.

Probably not worth the money. I bet you that the trip to the moon was a pure product of the Cold War to show the Russians we were smarter, better equipped and not impressed by their Sputnik and other satellites business...

A source of oxygen? well..A lot of people believe that we never actually went and that it was just faked because everyone was so freaked out by Sputnik that the USA had to appear superior .There is a radiation belt that must be passed through and people believe that you could not survive .

I think the main reason is it isn't cost-effective right now. There is little to learn by being there that we don't already know, and to send people up there is so expensive it isn't practical.

As far as space exploration goes, it's old news. They've moved on to other things.
