I had an ultrasound Wednesday I was 4 weeks and 4 days at that point. I had 2 sacs and only one has a visible yolk. The Dr. said that with twins sometimes one twin developes slower than the other and a yolk may form in the next couple of weeks. I am worried that I have my hopes up for twins and I may be let down. Has anyone had a ultrasound like mine? If so what was the out come?
Thanks for your help.

I didn't have an ultrasound like yours but I do have twins. I love my girls but twins are alot of work. Someone joked with me that twins are only fun if they are someone else's. Don't be disappointed if it's not twins. I still don't really remember the first three months of their life. We only wanted two children and I feel like I was cheated because I never really got to enjoy their infancy/babyhood.
You might want to try posting this question on www.twinstuff.com. The twin moms on their message boards might have had an ultrasound like yours.

I WISH i did as I desperatly wanted twins first time around.
BUT your listen to your doc. Either you do have twins or just 1 infant did not develop. I would think THIS early while everything is developing they would be relativly the same size, BUT I'm no doctor
I'm surprised they saw a yolk at 4w4d. I was 5w6d when I had my first ultrasound with my daughter at the fertility clinc 2 years ago adn they could only see a sac. NO yolk. I had to wait till 7w1d to see a viable fetus.
Tammy_l_r they are called sacs and yolks in fertility clinic terms. But you are correct ONCE they see a viable embryo to everyone else thats what their called. BUT this early on thier still a sac and yolk, not zygot/embryo and amniotic sac

lol Contrary to what the previous poster said....yes...there ARE yolks and that is what nourishes the embryo prior to the placenta forming.
I had to clear that up for you...... :)
But I am surprised that you had an ultrasound sooooo early. There is really nothing to see and you just can't bank on what you see so early. usually it is about the 6/7 week point when even the embryo becomes visiable.
Hang in there.....WAYYY too early to tell.

do no longer count variety the numbers yet until eventually later on, it would merely be that it particularly is merely too early to work out the different yolk sac that's truthfully regular. solid luck with the being pregnant and merely be chuffed which you're pregnant, do no longer rigidity too plenty yet until eventually you realize for specific!

Your doctor is right, sometimes one develops faster than the other. You're only like 5 weeks pregnant, your baby (or babies) are probably about the size of a pumpkin seed. I'm sure they'll end up doing another one and then you'll see both of your beautiful peanut sized babies =)

I have never heard the term yolk except when talking about birds. Do you mean placenta? If so, the placenta is what the baby uses to breathe, eat, get their blood supply, everything. Ask the doctor if they could be sharing one.
