I was raised in the 50's and I was raised with the "Do as I say, not as I do" variety of child-rearing. Also, the "because I said so" argument and there was no debate. Guess what? It worked.

Their is a phrase that is used often when it comes to children's behavior. It's "Home Training". I think it actually comes from the Bible. I believe there is a Proverb that says "Train up a child the right way and your family shall be blessed". or something like that. Sorry don't have my Bible handy. Anyway, what the term means is the child demonstrates the appropriate behavior or in some cases innappropriate behavior by what they are taught and by what they see at home.
For instance, parents being kind to each other, being polite etc... Most parents teach their children manners and how to behave. Others just basically say one thing and do another. 9 times out of 10 the child mimics the behavior they saw rather than what they were told. Then you also have the parents who don't care what their child does.
Parents are supposed to be their child's first teacher. They set the example and show what is right and wrong.
Hope this helped. If you need more info, you can always click on my picture and email me. I'll be glad to help.

heard of this saying? 'Like Father like Son'
Why are there schools, moral education and even kid's shows? In schools, the teachers (adults) show children what's right and wrong. Moral education also instills moral values in children, which are also taught by parents at home. Variety kids show helps out a bit too, if they were to teach behaviour.
At home, who's never been lectured by his/her parents before? They've been through so much and they want us to go the right way, and not be led astray.

adults are the one's that should be able to tell kids what or what not to do based on their experiences. but if it's not what they are knowledgeable about, they have to use logic. if a kid wants to smoke, the adult should be able to say, "no! its bad for your health, and eventually can cause lung cancer" and things like that.
