I don't think we can do away with cents and just round up or down to the dollar. Sales tax would be impossible on common purchases, caluclating interest at banks would be 100x more inaccurate with rounding errors. And there are a lot of items where the difference between $2.60 and $3.40 is important - like a gallon of gas. if you just talking about currency production, i'm sure we're just not going to mint as many coins as years go on and electronic transactions grow.

Sorry, I can't give you a better answer. My excuse is that I slept through my money and banking class.
All I know is that coins do have bigger roles than we might think. Therefore, you will never see coins disappearing, not anytime soon. I'll try to find some references.

no it would make things 2 confusing and how would we collect all the coins in the usa i mean really it might even cause natoinal panic
