I was a LLL member when I was nursing, and we had a wide range of Moms. I made it clear that I was not interested in either the family bed or nursing forever, and they dealt with me on my terms. If the group you went to isn't that way, please try another. Ask the leader you met If she can advise you on where you will be most comfortable. And please keep breastfeeding for as long as it feels good. . It is the best thing you can do for you and your baby.

Sorry to hear your experience with LLL were not too positive. I guess every group is different. Depending on where you are you should be able to find something. In Canada the health system is different, and we have local health units that have many programs related to women's health. We even have a peer based breastfeeding support program here. It was very helpful for me. You can search your area for something similar, women's health centers, hospitals, even the Internet. There is a very well known doctor of breastfeeding Dr. Jack Newman in Toronto, Canada he has an excellent website and resources on all sorts of issues. You could always start your own support group too. Good luck!

If there is more than one LLL group in your area, try different ones. They each tend to have a personality of their own, based on who the Leader is and who the moms who attend are. (For example, an evening meeting is more likely to be full of working moms while a morning one is probably stay at home moms.)
Sometimes hospitals have support groups too. Check the hospital you delivered at or local birth centers.

Sometimes your local hospital's Lactation Center will have a group. You might be able to find some like-minded mothers in a regular mothers group even if it is not specifically for breast feeding.

I agree with you. They scare me as well. The ones I have talked to basically yelled at me for supplementing my son with formula. (he was jaundice and my milk didn't come in yet so he wasn't getting enough) when the doctor told me too. I decided from then on I wasn't going to talk to them again. Good for you for getting support and not being resentfull. Good luck finding one and congratulations.
