The presidential election is this Sunday, and if Hugo Chavez does not win his 3rd term, there might be riots in the city... maybe, I don't know, that's why I am asking if I should be worried about spending my Christmas in Caracas, Venezuela. I am from Canada -- I know Venezuela is not in good relations with the United States, since Chavez called Bush the "devil". What do you think?

Don't worry to come here (Venezuela), but you have to be careful in some parts of the city, you can go almost anywhere but try to be with someone else, if the person is Venezuelan better. But if you wanna make sure to be safe, don't act as tourist (khaki shorts, sandals, sun glasses, safari hat and a colorful shirt), then u will look as a tourist with money and very easy to rob. Take Care here we are very kind with tourist and try to learn some Spanish before.

As long as you know someone who is familiar with Venezuela and have them take you about, you should be fine. But do not where any jewelry or expensive tennis shoes those are a hot commodity out there and you could end up being a target for a thief. if you speak Spanish that will be a plus. If you go be careful and make sure you try not to show any wealth. but do be fashionably dressed and always watch your back. Otherwise I really think you should not go. And also December months are very rainy in Venezuela. There are possibly resorts that you can go to that are safe but take caution and find a friend from there who can show you the safe places to go. I hope you do have a great time there if you go but do not where any jewelry at all. That and or designer shoes.

Hello!
I am in Venezuela, in Caracas to be more specific.
I am happy to say Hugo Chavez just won the presidential elections half an hour ago.
If you want you can come here, I can not ensure you that there will not be riots, because I am not sure (well, I am not God), emm...it's posible that the opositon might start protesting and everythin, but I think that all of this will be over before Christmas. In the other hand, it might be really good to come because most of the people (supporters of the president like me!!! lol) will be reallt happy and motivated.

It's up to you, we here have very beautiful places, very warm hearted people (regardless their political ideas, of course), a tropical climate...it's your choice.

;-)

I wouldn't worry if I were you. Though if asked I would
definately assert that are Canadian, just for your
sake.

And I gonna make the assumption that Chavez will
win again. Even though he's a lunkhead.

No, don't be worried. As long as you yourself don't go out rioting in the street you should be fine.

You *do* know that it's summer there now, right? ;-)

Oh, and by the way -- Chavez was RIGHT about Bush :)

Be worried only if Dubyah decides to drop a bomb on you!..If you have any weapons of mass destruction, like an air rifle, or a lump of wood, a blunt kitchen knife..get rid of 'em quick!..And then go back to Canada..You'l be safe there..Dubyah thinks its called Canadia!..

I wouldn-t worry, if you don't get involved in politics. I have friends living there and they don't seem concerned about safety issues.
