generally a person commits battery if
the person causes bodily harm to an individual, or the person makes physical contact with an individual, and the contact is of an insulting or provoking nature
PS. to the previous writer - it may be different within different states of the US but this site is on the INTERNET not necessarily just in the united states so you have to give a more general answer.

In Florida, sexual battery means oral, anal, or vaginal penetration by, or union with, the sexual organ of another or the anal or vaginal penetration of another by any other object; however, sexual battery does not include an act done for a bona fide medical purpose.
This is the chapter which we use to charge someone with what other states call rape. The punishment is determined by the age of the victim and the type of force used.

Depends on the state, but informally it is a battery(unwanted touching or hitting) with sexual nature.
