My laptop is pretty old,it's a Compaq Presario 2800.For some reason it won't turn on.It'll only show up to the wallpaper & that's it.My Firewall is still on though. There are no programs on display at all & niether is the start menu. Can anybody please tell me what is wrong? I believe I downloaded to many stuff. My laptop warned me about having low disk space & that it needed to be clean.I cleaned it & the next thing you know,it won't start up.Somebody please help! I would really appreciate it.

Just maybe you cleaned up too much. If you deleted anything BUT your MyDocuments files, you may have done some damage to the installed software and system.

Consider using the RESTORE disks that came with that poor old computer.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Well If u disabled any of the startup apps the u need to enable them again in order for ur Windows to start...If u didn't disable any thing, well here's somthing u wanna try...

Start ur computer, after u see the Compaq logo keep pressing F8 in order to get the Windows Advance Menu choose Safe Mode & press enter....Wait till the system boots in Safe Mode & go & restore ur system to a point where ur system was working without any problems...Now i know what ur thinking,What about ur documents & other stuff, well they wont get wiped out...Windows will just look for Corrupt or missing system files & replace or copy new files....

Give it a try.....Hopefully it will work......If not u need to format ur drive & install the OS i.e Windows....

Good Luck....

windows 98 miracle cure!!!
is this computer windows 98 or win ME????
if so try this are you familiar with dos?
windows 98 has a registry restore built in that no one ever mentions.
here are the steps to use it
boot to DOS
ether use a dos start-up disk, or
start compute and hit f8 to enter start-up menu and hit boot to dos.
the type this, and hit enter after each line.
cd\
cd\windows\system
scanreg/restore

this will bring up a menu of the last few days you started your computer, pick one you think it worked and try it

Good luck

I would delete as much space needed to reinstall the operating system and reinstall your software. I suspect that something in the operating system was deleted or corrupt.
