well, i had my lmp on October 13th. I had implanation bleeding and a positive home test on November 5. i had blood work done on November 9th which indicated I was only 10 days pregnant. I had an ultrasound on November 24 which showed I was 4 weeks 5 days. I am just as confused as you are on how they do these dates. Some people have been telling me you can't go by the hcg, which my levels are really high and some say that is indicating twins. I say an ultrasound would tell you.

I would say the beginning of October was your last cycle. That one day flow could have been the embryo implanting into your uterus. That can cause slight bleed for a day in some women. It happened to me with 2 of my pregnancies.

I would say the proper period you mentioned, two weeks before, was the last true period date.
