The duramax is Chevy's diesel that is made by Isuzu. The Vortec line refers to any gasoline engine put into a Chevy Truck. It refers to the fuel injection system mix of fuel and air. There are several Vortec engines 2.7l, 3.7l,4.2l,4.8l,5.3l,6.0l,6.0l H.O.and the 8.1L Since you are talking about a Duramax, I will assume you are comparing it to the 8.1L V8 since they are the most comparable powerwise. Federal law states that any vehicle over 8000GVWR does not have to disclose mileage so there is no federally mandated mileage to go off of. Several of my customers have claim between 15-20mpg with the diesel and 10-13mpg with the 8.1. Remeber though, the Duramax has around a $5000 price tag and diesel averages about 30 cents more per gallon. Hope this helps.

20 mph is a slight exaggeration....I specialize in this engine. Most of my customers claim 15.5 mpg loaded or unloaded.
Very strong motor.
You may notice at a new car dealership that there is no EPA fuel mileage sticker on the Duramax equipped trucks, that is because diesel engines don't apply to those federal regulations.

It is composed of not basically a manifold and throttle physique. It additionally calls for a severe tension electric powered gas pump, greater desirable gas clear out, knock sensor, an ECM (computing gadget) and a wiring harness. All come interior the kit regardless of the undeniable fact that, TBI provides you with greater desirable gas financial device, and could be greater sturdy. yet another plus is they self regulate for altitude. in case you ever tension the mountains like up in Colorado, you would be astounded on the version the TBI makes over a carb systm.
