Every major study of the marijuana laws in the last 100 years has concluded that the laws were the product of racism, ignorance, and nonsense. They all concluded that marijuana use and possession should not be a crime.
For reference, first see the short history of why marijuana was outlawed in the first place at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm
Then see the full text of the major studies of the subject at http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/studies.htm

Ha ha ha. Taking the role of governments point of view, it should only and i mean ONLY, be legalized if the countries debt gets any higher. Mine, would be, people should have the right experience something interesting (understatement) especially when it has never been proven to be toxic for the body and mind, and whats even more Hilarius, since you did point this out, Legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco have been PROVEN to kill you with constant use. Kinda weird how the most dangerous drugs for the body are legal and the fun (interesting) things aren't, that's not even including all the screwy drugs the FDA stamped on to be release to the public. Like what was that vioxx.? It shows how much they care for they're citizens no? Good topic.

Legalize it. We spend $40 million a year to eradicate ditch weed every year because it's in the same family as pot. Ditch weed is wild plants that are ancestors of hemp plants grown for rope and textiles. They have almost no THC and cannot get you high, but, because they are in the pot family, they must be collected and burned. A big damn waste of time, money, and resources.
No one has ever overdosed on weed. You can't say the same thing for alcohol.
The only reason that we don't legalize it (aside from the holy roller objections) is because we don't have a way to quantify impairment. Drug tests can't tell if you're high right now, at work, or you got toasted last night. You can't tell by objective testing whether a driver or employee on the job is high.
The 'gateway drug' argument is also a crock. Most people who are addicted to alcohol are also addicted to cigarettes. Does that mean that one led to the other? Of course not. The propensity of pot smokers to go on to harder drugs is due to the fact that they have addictive personalities. If pot weren't around, they'd have started out with hard drugs. The downward spiral of drug abuse is in the person's DNA, not in the pot.

Most of the arguments all center around how much money would be saved if it was legal - and those arguments are bogus.
During prohibition, the proponents of legalizing alcohol often claimed that if it were legal and the government taxed it - we wouldn't even need an income tax.......yeah, that argument was valid!
Alcohol is legal - and a lot of people don't use it responsibly - and the costs to society are enormous in both money and pain and suffering.
Ditto for tobacco. Both cost society far more than they ever earn in taxes.
Do you really want to add yet another drug to this mix?

I have always thought that marijuana should be legalized. It is being used widely by many and the government is missing out on the tax revenue with would generate. If need by, the government can legalize it by prescription. But because of some peculiar effect of smoking marijuana, it should be controlled like alcohol. Do not drink and drive. Do not smoke and drive.

I agree it should be legal that way there can be more controls on it. I don't believe it is any more a dangerous drug than alcohol, in fact I believe alcohol is worse. but it should be a controlled substance like presecription drugs...not that it should be gotten only by presecription but that it should be legal.
