The babies no longer need her care but I want to keep 2 female babies but I dont want to take a chance on them fighting if they are in the same cage. I would think that being litter mates and their mom...that they will get along.

Usually, yes, if you are keeping them in a large enough cage/container/space. I'd remove any male hamsters to avoid getting all the females pregnant (a father hamster will mate with his daughters, etc.). But keep an eye on everyone. We've had hamster moms who seemed to go crazy and killed all their youngsters.

Hamters in the wild live solitary lives-DO NOT live in Groups-which also means that they are territorial and when the babies are weaned in the wild INSTINCT tells them its time to go and set up their own territory. Just because they are now kept as pets does not mean that the natural Instinct has changed. The mothr will not tolerate them in her cage and you must separate for her nature, her instinct will have her see them as a threat and being stronger she will kill them for they have no place to run off to as they would in the wild.Animals are made to behave, live in a certain way and when we attempt to change that there are usual drastic cinsequences-usually for the animal. You must separate them for would be cruel for them to be born and then to be slaughtered. in the future when you have aquestion regarding the welfare of a animal it is best to call a Veterinarian that treats exotic pets,as hamsters, they are glad to answer a few questions over the phone but they are also the experts and the best source for advice >I did a quick search www.petstation.com a good site for the person knows hamsters and the information is reliable. You do know that on the web info is not verified to actually be true. Good Luck with your hamsters.

I had hamsters as a kid and my son had hamsters. The key seems to be keeping the males away from the babies...he will eat them. The mom, as you know is capable of carrying her babies inside her mouth. I never had the occasion to have female hamsters attack each other....related or not.I suggest that you keep the 2 females babies with mom.

nope, the mom wants them gone, she will start to compete for cage space and when they are older she will see them as a threat.
