"what is the point of my question?"
Sounds like the point of your question can be found only in your asking it. In asking it you are obviously trying to sound profound in order to trick people into thinking that the question is profound. If people think the question is profound they will feel a sense of satisfaction if they answer the question. So people will give an answer to your question. Which will give you a sense of satisfaction that people have spent time acknowledging your existence.
(This slight against anyone, it's just the way I think people are).

you really don't have an answer - because if you did, you would not have wasted your time of asking this question, and if you need re-assurance, then that means you really don't know. Kinda like on "who wants to be a millionaire" - the contestant says what he "thinks" is the answer, but yet, asks the audience, and then says "I'll go with the audience"

You are asking this question because you didn't think you had a better question.. You best look inward before you try and find something meaningful from someone like me who doesn't really know, or doesn't really care what your question is. The point is..seek and you shall find..or die trying.

Is this an asnwer to your question, since this "answer" comes out of the understanding that you just wanted to ask a "smart" question and "replies" it in kind, or is it not since it ends with a 'question mark'?

Probably because you are a bit over impressed by your own intelligence and lack of wisdom. And you are not clever enough to come up with a really interesting question.

May be you are a sophist. (A person who asks a question for the sake of asking a question, who starts a dispute for the sake of an argument.)
