I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier. What happens is when I leave the car in the shade it starts no problem. If it's left out in the sun for several hours it cranks and eventually turns over. I've noticed that if I give it gas it will fire right up. But it is wierd to me that it works in the shade and doesn't work when it's in the sun. At first I thought the battery was bad so I got it replaced, but it's still cranking. The car has 75,000 miles. Would it be a bad vaccuum hose (I saw that had to do with hot and cold from "Hard starting 2001 Cavalier)?

Hello and good morning, Several things toconside. Vaccumn leak can be checked by spraying wd40 at the connections and around the base of the carb, with the engine running. I would check the position of the choke when it is cold and when it is hot. Perhaps it needs to be adjusted. A cooler engine has greater compression than a hot one, however i don`t think that is your problem. It is a fairly new car so i would think along the lines of fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator. I would recheck timing as well.Sometimes a simple trick for computer controlled cars is to remove the battery cable for a few minutes, and then reinstall. It will run poorly for about 5 minutes while the computer resets it`self curing the problem. Have a fun day.
