Where do you draw that line between having fun with stereotypes and being rascist and rude?

When you are the only one laughing, it's racist...

If you wouldn't say it in front of a friend who belongs to the group, it's racist.

If you don't have any friends who belong to the group, you're a racist.

For example, a friend of mine who is African-American called the house and mistook my voice for my Mom's. So I said, "No, it's me. But I guess all us white folks sound alike, huh?" She thought it was a hoot.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm not a big an of racism or stereotypes but I don't mind being rude when the occasion demands it. Usually I resort to being rude when someone doesn't respond to my polite requests to leave me alone, drop a subject or a similar action.

Its funnny as long as nobody that hears it is offended. Whenever I tell a joke like that and somebody gets offended, I apologize and make a note not to bring up things like that in front of them anymore. In my opinion the line is drawn when somebody makes their distaste for that genre of jokes known and you or your friends keep going. Then it is rude and bordering racist.

I think everyone should just leave everyone alone. We are all entitled to our own opinion, whether it right or wrong. We are in no place to judge the other, for we all have our own faults. No one is better than the other person. We all laugh at things when other people aren't around.....
We all just need to get along and let each other "be". TO EACH HIS OWN!!!!

it all depends who you're talking to..obviously if its a new person to you, or they don't know you too well, they won't know the dif between a joke, and being serious. Poeple who know the true you are ok to joke around

Not all stereotypes are racist and rude. Just be sure they are not. Be thoughtful and tactful.
